Meet Patricia Carney "Trish"

Trish Carney is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in helping children, teens, and families navigate trauma, emotional dysregulation, and high-conflict family dynamics. She provides a supportive and structured environment where clients can heal, strengthen relationships, and build lasting emotional resilience.

Trish provides therapy for clients ages 7 through adulthood, focusing on trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, anger, and personality-related challenges. She works extensively with clients experiencing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and provides specialized support for children, adolescents, and adults struggling with suicidal ideation. Trish also has extensive experience supporting clients with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), Disruptive, Impulse-Control, and Oppositional Disorders, and other complex emotional and behavioral concerns. Her work emphasizes building emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and healthy communication and problem-solving skills to promote long-term stability and self-compassion.

Her therapeutic approach integrates EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) with Polyvagal Theory, Self-Havening, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI) to support the mind-body connection and promote nervous system regulation. Trish has completed advanced trainings in Polyvagal Theory for Embodied Trauma Recovery (Parts I & II), How a Polyvagal Perspective Can Enhance the Treatment of Trauma and Anxiety, and Self-Havening for Healing Trauma and Building Resilience, deepening her expertise in trauma-informed and neurobiological treatment approaches.

Trish’s diverse professional background includes working in inpatient psychiatric care at Reno Behavioral Healthcare Hospital, and in residential treatment at SAI Residential Treatment Center, where she worked with youth ages 12–17 presenting with complex trauma, behavioral challenges, and self-harm or suicidal ideation. She has also served as a social worker within the military and Veterans Affairs (VA) systems, supporting service members and veterans through trauma, adjustment, and reintegration challenges. Additionally, Trish has provided outpatient therapy in rural communities, offering accessible, high-quality mental health services to underserved populations.

In addition to individual therapy, Trish facilitates family sessions, anger management groups, and youth groups empowering families to improve communication, increase understanding, and restore emotional safety at home. Trish’s therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and practical—helping clients move from survival to healing, and from emotional reactivity to resilience, connection, and self-trust.
